Bhatukamma and Ganesh Events

Bathukamma is a festival that is celebrated for nine days during Navratri. It starts on Mahalaya Amavasya and ends on Ashwayuja Ashtami (also called 'Pedha/Sadhula Bathukamma'). ‘Bathukamma' in Telugu, is to ask the 'goddess to come alive'.

Preparing a Bathukamma is a folk art. Women start preparing Bathukamma from the afternoon. They cut the flowers leaving the little length base and arrange them on a wide plate called Thambalam, and stack them up in a conical mound, decorated with a Lotus or Pumpkin Flower on top of the stack along with Gouramma (a symbolic idol of Gowri made of turmeric).

Our Colony Women are celebrating the Bathukamma festival with great zeal and enthusiasm on the occasion of this sacred evening. They sing many folk songs and revolve around the Bathukamma.

Bathukamma is a floral festival celebrated predominantly in Telangana, the Southern part of India and some parts of Andhra Pradesh. Every year this festival is celebrated as per Sathavahana calendar for nine days starting Mahalaya Amavasya (also known as Mahalaya Amavasya or Pitru Amavasya) till Durgashtami, usually in September–October of Gregorian calendar. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri. It starts on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya and the 9-day festivities will culminate on "Saddula Bathukamma" or "Pedda Bathukamma" festival on Ashwayuja Navami, popularly known as Durgashtami which is two days before Dussehra. Bathukamma is followed by Boddemma, which is a 7-day festival. Boddemma festival marks the ending of Varsha Ruthu whereas Bathukamma festival indicates the beginning of Sarad or Sharath Ruth.

At the starting of this day, all the women will design dress up the new clothes and perform Pooja to the Maa Durga and then starts to decorate the bathukamma with different colors of flowers and leaves. They look very auspicious and beautiful and in fact, it spills the glory of power to all the women who decorate them. Then in the evening all the women will gather at one designated place and keep and arrange all the Bathukammas in a circular way and perform dances on different village traditional and glorified songs which has a great meaning in it. By doing this they have the belief that Maa Durge will arrives at their homes and bless them with wealth, power and wisdom and finally fulfil all their wishes.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom, knowledge, and new beginnings. The festival is usually celebrated in August or September, depending on the lunar calendar, and it is observed for ten days. During the festival, people install idols of Lord Ganesha in their homes and public places, and they offer him prayers, sweets, and flowers. On the final day of the festival, the idols are taken in a procession and immersed in a body of water, such as a river or the sea. The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is a significant event for many Hindus, and it is a time for family gatherings, feasting, and cultural activities. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and energy, and it is a symbol of hope and new beginnings. The "Evergreen Friends Association" may have celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi in a variety of ways, such as hosting a puja (worship ceremony), organizing cultural programs, or holding a community feast. The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi can bring people together and foster a sense of community and togetherness, and I'm sure it would have been a joyful and meaningful event for everyone involved.
